A good friend of mine often says; “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans”. As young 20 somethings just getting started in life, we thought we had a firm grasp on lives and our future.  We were in love, had good jobs and great families.  The sky appeared to be the limit. Ten years after we were married we were to learn that our lives were to be changed forever. Colleen was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA).  SCA is progressive, degenerative neurological disease. SCA has a slow progression. Over the next few years Colleen turned her focus on how she could get “better”.  Much of her focus at this time was how she could get physically better. Colleen did exhaustive research into various diets and supplements to improve her condition. Despite everything she tried, her condition continued to progress. We both struggled with how we were going to adjust to our new reality. After a number of years of soul searching, the beauty of life started to emerge when we stopped trying to bend life to meet our expectations. When we began living life on life’s terms a new way of living emerged. To us, living on life’s terms is a manner of living by accepting the challenges that life presents to you and adapting to them. We have adopted living on life’s terms as our philosophy for life and attempt to employ it in every aspect of our lives.  Today we live meaningful, fulfilled lives.

We started Living on Life’s Terms to share our past and present experience.  We hope by sharing our experience we can help others struggling with difficult circumstances in their lives.  We have come to believe that our circumstances do not define us, but what we give back to the world does.

Offering Hope During Challenging Times

We want to share our story

After Colleen was officially diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) in 2014, we knew our lives would be forever changed. SCA is a progressive, degenerative neurological disease that has left Colleen unable to walk or speak. But despite the challenges this condition has presented, we’re discovering how to adapt and live happily!

We have always loved traveling, so decided to sell our home and move into something a bit more portable. Now we’ve started this vlog to document our Cross Country Road Trip. We’re towing our 36’ Toy Hauler across the United States over the next few months – and who knows where we’ll end up next!

Before we discovered this incredible life we live today, there was a very dark period in our marriage. We almost did not make it. In this video we share how close we were to actually calling it quits. You can read more about this turning point in our marriage here
