The Furry Kids

So the dogs feel a little slighted that they only had a quick mention in the About Us section, so we figured we should tell you a little more about them.  We adopted both of them from Tails Humane Society in Dekalb, IL.  PoJai was first.  We gave her that name meaning “sweet little amber” in Cantonese as we understand.  She is our Shar Pei/Cattle Dog mix.  She is 11 years old now, but she does not act her age.  She has the protective tendencies of a Shar Pei, but the herding tendencies of a cattle dog.  She is known to chase just about everything in our yard and has tangled with 3 racoons over the last 4 years.  The last one almost got the best of her.  After she trusts someone, she is just a lover.  She is extremely in tune with your emotions.  When I hit rock bottom before entering recovery for alcoholism, she was there with me.  I remember looking into her eyes and experiencing the feeling that everything was going to be ok.

Veruca is our Pit/Boxer mix.  Veruca is now 9 years old.  We got her when she was a puppy.  We really did not want a puppy at the time, but she was sitting there so angelic like.  A lover she is, an angel she is not.  She is extremely bull headed and set in her ways.  Whatever is on her mind is going to happen regardless of how you feel about it.  The 3 things that make her life complete is food, sleep and affection.  She is always up for taking a nap with you, day or night.

Both dogs have their distinct personalities, but they really work well together.  Although very different, they both understand they have to be delicate around Colleen.  People ask us what we are going to do with them when we travel?  They are certainly coming with us.  They are part of the family.
