Acting In The Face Of Fear

By pursuing a life change of this magnitude, we will run into many situations where we must act despite how scary the case may seem at the time. Today was a great example of acting in the face of fear. What I will do for work is not yet certain. My wish was to perform work for my current employer while we travel, even part-time. For the last year, I have been working from home to care for Colleen, so my idea was to continue to carry out my work duties on the road. I thought we could remain stationary during the week to perform my work and travel on the weekends.

Not What I Expected

I sat down with my direct boss and the company president to discuss our travel plans and detailed the program already in the works to sell our house and travel the country. I mentioned my idea of still working as we traveled and asked them, “What role do you see me filling”? There was a bit of a pause. They continued offering kudos for supporting Colleen to travel the country but informed me they could not justify a role with the company as we traveled. At that moment, I was in shock. Maybe it was naive of me, but I seriously thought there would be some sort of position for me.

Going into the meeting, I thought it would be a discussion about modifying my role ended up being an exit interview. This turn of events adds another layer of financial uncertainty to the mix. Still, it does not impact how we will act on our plans whatsoever. I knew this was something we had to pursue from the first time Colleen’s face lit up. We have to trust the process.

You Have To Jump If You Want To Be Successful

I often watch a YouTube video by Steve Harvey when I am afraid to take action on something. His message is, “You gotta jump if you want to be successful.” He says you will have to jump off the cliff of life to be successful. He stresses that your parachute will not open right away. You are going to bang off the rocks a bit, but your parachute will open. He also warns if you do not jump, your parachute will never open.

He emphasizes being financially successful, but I apply this to pursue a fulfilled and purposeful life. This adventure we are heading out on is our jumping-off point. There is no doubt we will get banged around a bit. We don’t have to worry about our parachute opening because we have Angels to lift us.
